We've had no problems with the software and are seeing quick results. Typing progress reports (WPM and accuracy) and chartsĪlthough we aren't very far into it at the time of writing this review, so far it is proving to be effective and entertaining, and my daughter (nearly 11) and I are both very happy with the program. As the kids progress, they get "rewards" and between that and wanting to "capture the castle," they have constant motivation to keep going. The software stores your progress and always knows where you left off, so the practice games will never include keys not yet learned. There is also a "Story Lagoon" where kids can practice typing stories from classic literature and fairy tales. This is an entertaining way of review and skill building, and the kids are pretty much guaranteed to have fun with it. In the meanwhile, each time they learn new keys, they can practice those keys with various fun and challenging games. Once they reach the castle and become The Ruler Of Typer Island, they advance to The Lost City for still more games and challenges. They have a goal of completing challenges and tests that will allow them to navigate all of "Typer Island" and "capture the castle" at the end (once they've learned all of the keys and completed all of the challenges in the five distinct lands they must navigate on Typer Island). The kids learn the home row and are gradually introduced to new keys with step-by-step touch typing instruction. You can choose your WPM goals, and you can choose whether you want instruction in English or in Spanish. You can choose the age group and level for which you want instruction, or you can choose from a list of lesson plans.
